The Awakening

With its own penetrating vision the spirit seeks some one mortal worthy to hold him company, wortty of being exalted for a few hours into realms of the semicelestials. His search has always hitherto been fruitless, and he he has sunk back, disheartened, into the sea. But tonight he found Mrs. Pontellier. Perhpas he will never wholly release her from the spell. Perhaps she will never again suffer a poor, unoworthy earthling to walk in the shadow of her divine presence."

I had to have drawn this at least six months ago. This was my favorite part of the book and I was always inspired to draw the spirit that haunted the Gulf, but the picture is instead focused around Mrs. Pontellier. There were levels of disgust and satisfaction that went into this picture that I'm not willing to discuss. I suppose I was just feeling very fickle today and, as a result, the picture suffered much abuse.

I suppose I like the end result. I like the colors, at any rate. The Awakening isn't for everyone, so I don't know if I should recommend it. I really liked it and I'm typically predjudice against anything without swords or magic in it. Ah well...
